How to Set Up a Crypto Wallet

Hot wallet vs. cold wallet

Hot wallet

Connected to the internet, browser extension or mobile app.

Pros
  • Fast, everyday deposits and withdrawals
  • Free, no device to buy
  • Connects directly to a casino site
Cons
  • Exposed to phishing sites and malware
  • A compromised device risks the wallet
  • Not built for long-term storage
Cold wallet

A physical device that keeps your keys offline.

Pros
  • Immune to online hacks and phishing
  • The standard for storing larger amounts
  • Keys never touch an internet-connected app
Cons
  • Costs money to buy the device
  • Slower for frequent deposits
  • Lost or damaged device risks the funds without a backed-up seed phrase

Most players use both: a hot wallet for the amount they're about to deposit and play with, a cold wallet for everything they're not touching right now.

Wallet fees vs. network fees

Network fee

Paid to the blockchain itself to process the transaction. Same regardless of which wallet you use to send it.

Wallet markup

Some wallets and exchange-linked wallets add a convenience fee on top, often shown as a slightly worse "estimated" fee than the network actually charges.

How to check

Most wallets let you view or adjust the network fee manually before confirming, comparing that number against a block explorer catches a markup.

The five-minute setup

1
Install

Official site or app store only.

2
Create

12–24 word seed phrase generated.

3
Write it down

Paper, not a screenshot.

4
Confirm

Re-enter it to prove you saved it.

5
Set a PIN

For daily app access.

Sending your first transaction

Every coin has its own address format, a Bitcoin address never looks like an Ethereum one, and a wallet won't let you send BTC to an ETH-style address. Two ways to get the address right: paste it directly from the casino's deposit page, or scan the QR code it shows if your wallet supports that, both avoid a typo in a 30-plus character string. Before confirming, check three things: the coin matches, the network matches (an address can accept a coin on more than one network), and the amount is above any minimum deposit the casino lists.

Why the seed phrase is the entire account

No "forgot password" option, no support line that can reset it. Whoever holds those words controls the funds, on any device, forever. A legitimate wallet, exchange or casino will never ask you to type it anywhere outside the wallet app itself, any prompt asking for it elsewhere is a scam.

Recovering a wallet on a new device

Install the same wallet app on the new device, choose "restore" or "import" instead of "create new", and enter the seed phrase in order. The wallet rebuilds every address and balance from those words alone, nothing is stored on the developer's servers to recover from if the phrase itself is lost. This is also the only legitimate reason a wallet app will ever ask for the phrase again after initial setup, during a deliberate restore you started yourself, never in response to a pop-up, email or support message.

One wallet, or several?

A single wallet is simpler to manage. Some players still split funds across more than one: a dedicated wallet for casino play, separate from savings held elsewhere, so a phishing site that compromises one doesn't expose everything. Neither approach is wrong, the tradeoff is convenience against isolating risk, worth deciding deliberately rather than by accident.

Do this, not that

Do
  • Write the seed phrase on paper or metal, store it fireproof.
  • Keep a second copy in a separate location.
  • Match coin and network before sending.
  • Install only from the official listing.
Don't
  • Type the seed phrase into any website or chat.
  • Store it as a screenshot or cloud file.
  • Reuse a seed phrase across wallets.
  • Trust a download link from a DM or ad.

Funding the wallet

A new wallet starts empty. Buy coins on an exchange, then withdraw them to your wallet's address. See buying crypto for a deposit for that step, and how crypto casinos work for what happens next.

Frequently Asked Questions

What wallet do I need for a Solana casino?

Phantom is the standard wallet for Solana (SOL). For an Ethereum-based coin instead, use MetaMask or Trust Wallet.

What happens if I lose my seed phrase?

Without the seed phrase and without another device already logged in, the funds are unrecoverable, there is no password reset or support line that can restore access.

Should I use a hot or cold wallet for casino deposits?

A hot wallet for the amount you're about to deposit and play with, a cold (hardware) wallet for anything you're not actively spending.

Is a wallet the same as a casino account?

No. A wallet holds and sends your coins; the casino account is separate and only shows the balance once your deposit confirms on-chain.
